How To Fit QuickFlip Tail Tidy

Time: 1-3 hours

Tools/hardware needed:

  • Socket set
  • Screwdriver set
  • Allen and/or Torx key set
  • Open-end or combination Spanner set
  • Wire cutters
  • Wire strippers
  • Wire crimpers
  • Heat gun or heat source for shrink solder fittings
  • Cable ties

* The exact tools will depend on motorcycle make and model, but most manufacturers use common hardware around the tail section and rear tail.

1. Preparation:

Safety first: Disconnect the negative terminal of the motorcycle battery to prevent accidental shorts during installation.

Also ensure the bike is stable and, ideally, on level ground to aid the ease of installation and plentiful access around the bike.

Document wiring: If reusing stock Indicators or other components, take detailed notes or photos of the wiring connections (and direction) for easy reassembly.

Source appropriate, Non-current limited supply of 12v We recommend using the original licence plate light feed (If your bike has CANBUS (i.e. BMW) This may throw a fault, so an alternative source would be required) We suggest you install this on a “switched live” feed. Alternatively, you can feed direct from the battery and install your own “kill” switch as required

Take note of correct polarity (+ and -)

2. Disassembly

  • Remove the seat(s): Locate and remove the seat(s) according to
    your motorcycle's manual.
  • Remove the stock tail
    assembly:
     Carefully remove the stock
license plate holder, turn signals, and any associated brackets. try to
retain the original bolts in their respective locations for future reference.
  • Disconnect wiring: Disconnect the wiring for the license plate
light, turn signals, and any other components that need to be removed, and be
sure to label or mark them to note the correct positions/polarity

Prepare the tailtidy:

3. Assembly

Get the QuickFlip Adapter plate and unit from the packaging and mount the adapter plate to your bike. If you opted for the universal system then you will need to work out the most ideal hole positions for your bike, mark them and make the appropriate holes to suit your unit.

Once complete, install the QF unit to the adapter plate using either, the OEM bolts you removed to take off the original tail or
use the supplied bolts and ensure no cables are trapped or pinched before
tightening

4. Installation

Attach the assembled tail tidy unit to the motorcycle using the OEM or provided hardware. Be sure to have the QuickFlip in the tucked/up position, in order to give the unit enough cable slack when actuating. Ensure there are no snagged or tight cables before fully tightening any bolts.

Carefully route the wiring for the new components through the designated
channels on the tail tidy, ensuring it's protected from abrasion, heat and
pinching.

5. Mount Button

Using the supplied push button and cable, select your preferred position for the button to be mounted.

Then, route the cable through the bike, using the route of the OEM cables of the motorcycle (This is likely to be the “safest” route) from the front to the back, ensuring you have enough slack to fully move the handlebars left to right and that all heat sources and crushing points are minimised.

Secure the cable with cable ties throughout the route, ensuring there is enough cable left at the tail of the bike to make off the required connections for the connection to the control board.

6. Connect Wiring

You will need to use the supplied solder joints (or other preferred methods) to connect the wiring to the sourced 12v supply on the motorcycle's wiring harness. Some bikes with CANBUS systems will require a resistor on the original plate light wiring, to not throw a fault up for this.

For the Push button cable, this is a 6-pin plug which can only be connected 1 way, plug this into the QuickFlip Control board housing. And then the servo and encoder plug too.

Use cable ties or wire keepers to neatly secure the wiring and prevent it from being trapped or interfering with other components. Use a weak strength thread lock for any fixing bolts.

7. Finishing Up

When mounting your licence plate, ensure the QuickFlip is powered and rotated to the Down/Legal position, we recommend the top of the plate be placed just clear of the plate light to help keep a clean aesthetic, and the turn signals are visible and functional.

Adjust your preferred positions using the UI or App.

QF Standard - When searching for a Wi-Fi signal you will see “QuickFlip” followed by an alpha-numeric set the password for the Wi-Fi is “QuickFlip”

QF Edge - App available on iOS and Android.

8. Testing

Before replacing the seat/fairings, test the operation of the QuickFlip and all lights (license plate light and turn signals if fitted to the QF) to confirm they are working correctly.

Final Steps:

  • Secure wiring: Neaten up the wiring and ensure all
    connections are secure.
  • Reinstall
    components:
     Reinstall the
seat and any other body panels that were removed during the installation
    process.
  • Final check: Before riding, double-check all lights and
connections to ensure everything is functioning properly.
